DJ Yama - Manabu Yamzaki
(Sublime Records, Japan) (Sublime Records Label Manager/Top
Japanese Techno DJ)
DJ Yama (Manabu Yamazaki) started his career in DJing through organizing
his own events. His event ‘Sublime’, which started in 1994, creates a
long queue every weekend at Maniac Love. Yama, in search of true Tokyo
style techno, got together with now a world renowned DJ Wada (who
comprises half of Co-Fusion) and started ‘Sublime’. In fact, it was the first party in Tokyo, which truly
focused
on techno music, and is still the best techno party in town.
In 1999, ‘Sublime’ was the only party in Asia to be listed as one of the
best in the world by the Muzik magazine.
After talking to guests such as Ken Ishii and Yokota Susumu, who already
had their debut in Europe, Yama started his own techno label ‘Sublime
Records’. The label succeeded in releasing albums from foreign labels as
well as organizing tours in foreign countries, which helped the label
becomes established as one of the finest techno labels in the
world. Recently, Yama started subsidiary of Sublime entitled Reel Musiq
and Machingun; signing artists from England, US and Asia, releasing many
albums of various styles of music.
With Yama’s hectic schedule as a label manager, he still manages to play
as a resident DJ for a weekly Saturday party at Maniac Love, and produces
irregular parties such as ‘Reel Up’ with Ken
Ishii. Furthermore, he was asked to play at events with more than 50,000
people such as Fuji Rock Festival and Rainbow 2000. Yama, along with the
rest of the star DJs at Sublime, are undoubtedly some of the leading
techno DJs in Tokyo, and rock any crowd with their funky beats with a
twist of Tokyo techno!!
